FROM OUR SCIENCE DESK
THE AUSTRALIAN PRIME MINISTER’S continuing passion for overseas travel is not without its danger for the planet, says a climate change advocate.
Sven Bole-Hyper, a Swedish researcher into reindeer migration patterns in northern Lapland, has warned that the constant use of his private jet, the distances traveled and the fuel used, if maintained for a decade or more just might be the thing that tips the Earth into a spiral of uncontrollable warming. “It doesn’t take much to tip something on the edge, over that edge. On its own Albanese’s travels are not going to cause catastrophic global warming. But on top of all the other constituents leaning on he climate, his frantic overseas trip schedule might well be the straw that breaks the proverbial camel’s back. Push us up by perhaps one degree. That would not be nice for Australia. Perhaps that is why is so keen to keep getting away from Australia.”
Dr Ellie Nerd, a climate scientist from Victoria, added: “Of course, a long period in office – traveling at the rate Albo does every year – will definitely only add pressure to the world’s already strained climate. Can’t but. Not to mention the blatant hypocrisy involved. It’s bad enough that all those celebrities swanning around in their private jets, crying over the climate, but the politicians who succeed in pouring more carbon dioxide than your average Indian city into the atmosphere every time they all travel, that’s unbearable for anyone with a conscience. Wouldn’t it be ironic if it were one of these plastic virtue signalers who send the world over the edge? Watch out Mr Albanese, because the world is watching you!”
