FROM OUR SECRET FILES DESK
THE HYPE AROUND Christopher Nolan’s new movie, Oppenheimer, which tells the story of the leader of the project to develop the first atomic bomb, J Robert Oppenheimer, has led the Secret Files Section of the FBI, known as X, to release new information which confirms that Oppenheimer was finally deprived of his top security clearance not because of his past communist connections but because he made love to his dead mistress during a security hearing, which scene is actually portrayed as a dream in the movie.
“Yeah, his wife was sitting right behind him when it happened,” says Melrose McCarthy, a gossip columnist in Los Angeles who specializes in secret FBI celebrity dirt. “The hearing board was so stunned that it just ignored the whole business, pretended it didn’t happen, and confirmed that Oppenheimer’s security clearance should be revoked, depriving the great scientist of his previous status, because they were concerned about his communist past. They knew he wasn’t really a commie; but they did think he was a raving maniac, especially when his wife sat there and said nothing during the whole scene.
“Remember, Oppenheimer’s mistress, Jean Tatlock, committed suicide in 1944. The hearing into his security clearance took place in 1954. You see what I am getting at? Most of the hearing board had to go into therapy after what they witnessed and some actually recommended that Oppenheimer be deported to France, or even Russia, where they thought that kind of behavior might receive a more favorable audience.”
