A RECENT REPORT, that former George W. Bush Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice believes that the War on Terror has been been broadly won, has been followed by confirmation that a tasteful monument to mark the triumph is now being considered.
“We’re thinking of a statue – maybe in depressing lead – of a terrified Afghani hanging on to the wheels of an American transport as it lifts off from Kabul,” says Ukele Mischyff, a former war artist previously employed by the Pentagon until he was accidentally crippled when a US aircraft bombed a wedding he was attending. “Or a heap of limbs taken off by improvised explosive devices – they’d be real. We have thousands in cold storage. Or a secret funeral scene in bronze. My personal favorite is a large question mark about the size of the White House. We’ll ask the American public to decide.”
