WOMEN’S GROUPS HAVE recently identified what they say is a much neglected field of opportunity where men are still privileged and predominant – successful suicide.

“Men have always been- and continue to be – far more successful at killing themselves than women, and this has got to stop,” according to Ursula Raant of the Equal Equal Equal Society, a Feminist Action Group. “The suicide gap is the last great area of inequality and it needs to be bridged. We call upon governments the world over to put a lot more effort into ensuring not only equality of opportunity for women in this area, but, crucially, and critically, equality of outcome.”

Alison Sensyble, a campaigner against suicide, says that the reason men are more successful at killing themselves is that they usually use more violent methods. “Women tend to use uncertain methods, which often fail. However, we would ask that, instead of advocating for more dead of any sex or gender, voices of reason should be advocating for an end of suicide for all. Equality sorted, I think. That’s just a crazy thought we put out there.No pressure.”
