POLITICIANS AND COMMENTATORS around the world have welcomed the end of the Voice Referendum in Australia.
“At last, the adults back in charge,” said the London Morning Herald in an op ed piece that regretted the divisive nature of the campaign.
The American Newspaper, which seemed to think that Australia was a US pacific territory inhabited by former inmates of Alcatraz, nevertheless endorsed what it termed “the mind of the people”. It appeared even more confused when it asked “why Australians would ever want to give ABBA a special line to their Parliament”.
The French Daily, Zut Alors, said that picking out sections of any population for special treatment was a recipe for trouble, and insisted that the Albanese Government should have studied the causes of the French Revolution before embarking upon its campaign.
Spanish Online left-wing publication No Pasaran asked if the Aborigines needed military support, and then conceded that dividing any country by race was not a terrific idea, no matter what the motives.
A spokesperson for the Biden administration said “the voters have spoken, and done it with some dignity. The decision is made. Move on”.
China says it is happy that reason has returned to Australian politics. “The people are the final arbiters,” said a senior Communist Party official. “Politicians should always remember that.”
