TO PARAPHRASE LADY Bracknell in Ocsar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, lost interest in an increasingly arthritic counter-offensive may be regarded as a misfortune; lost interest in both the counter-offensive and its entire war looks like carelessness.
Western media appears to have done just that with Ukraine.
Since the Hamas attack on Israel it is as if the once hugely important Ukrainian war doesn’t exist. Apart from YouTube anoraks the media in general appears to have turned its head away from Kyiv and is now gripped by Gaza.
Which begs the question: Is the Ukraine War still happening?
Having once been the star cause-celebre of Western sympathies, Ukraine appears to have sunk in importance below the fate of Afghan interpreters left behind when the West fled Kabul.
Naturally, a certain panic is rushing through the powers that be in Kyiv. Are they to be subject to the same fate as South Vietnam, Cambodia, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan?
Has the West lost interest?
Where is Greta Thunberg when you need her?
