“THE NEXT THING to watch for is pursuit drones, seeking out enemy drones and shooting them down. Hell, Drone Aces might even emerge.”
Greg Biggles was a jet ace in Vietnam and now runs a technology company in Austin, Texas. He’s in his seventies but looks no older than fifty. He says the development of combat drones in Ukraine has so closely mirrored that of aircraft in World War One that it’s frightening to think of where it might lead.
“Remember, the Wright Brothers to the Moon was less than 66 years. The drones are moving at a faster pace. They have night vision drones now and mother drones carrying baby drones. Humans are cannon fodder to this kind of technology. The only limit on drones is size and with that the size of the munitions they can carry. But that’s just a matter of time. Soldiers are fast becoming redundant and we’re watching it happen in real time. It’s just no one who should recognize it, does. And modern media is low-rent compared to the guys I served with in Nam. Too many celebrities with little or no brains. Good for a piece to camera spouting someone else’s information. People should know the way things are moving, and how fast they are moving. With these things almost constantly in the air, nothing can concentrate in Ukraine. Nothing can move any distance. It’s paralyzing. Add it to communications jamming and a modern army can be rendered blind, deaf and dumb before it starts.”
