LONDON, ENGLAND
WELL BILLY, it’s like this:
It would take an invading Russian armored column travelling at an average speed of 30 kilometres pre hour, about 75 hours , that’s three days, to reach the English channel from the current Russian border.
This is based upon the vehicles in the column traveling constantly, and meeting no opposition in the countries it chose to pass through. Of course fatigue, food and refueling mean this would not happen.
If the column only traveled say for twelve hours of each day, then it would take six days to reach the English channel on the above figures.
Knowing the usual speed of armored columns, it’s probably more reasonable to limit advances to fifty kilometres per day, if that. Which would have the column reaching the Channel in 44 days.
But let’s allow for breakdowns and wrong turns and map errors and ice cream breaks, and of course traffic jams, and say the column moved at 30 kilometres a day.
The Russian column advancing towards the UK would then reach the channel in 75 days, that’s three months just to get to what would be the front line in a war with the UK, only, of course, to be met by a large body of water – the English Channel – that many invaders have had great difficulty crossing in the past.
And all this assumes that no one living between Russia and the English Channel chooses to interfere with this advancing Russian column while it rumbles across the continent of Europe.
So why do British politicians, and generals, and others obsess about the Russian threat to the UK?
No real idea. Self-importance? A mad desire for war? A distraction from Brexit?
Look, no Russian army has ever attacked the UK.
A British Army has attacked Russia. Twice actually. Once in the Crimean War in the 1850s, and secondly during the Russian Civil War following the 1917 Communist takeover of that country. But they traveled by sea.
If the Russians decided to attack the UK by sea, they would first have to build a navy capable of launching such an attack. Then they would have to sail huge distances to deliver the attack.
They might try to nuke Britain, but what would be the point?
Unless of course the British attack them again.
Hope this has helped you.
