FROM OUR WRITERS IN WASHINGTON DC AND MEDELLIN, COLUMBIA
WHILE THE GENERAL feeling is that Biden back sheep, Hunter, will not received a prison sentence for his firearms convictions, prisoners in correctional facilities across the United States of America are said to be stocking up with cocaine just in case the President’s son is given some time in the joint for his transgressions. And as a result, the price of Columbia’s white gold around the globe has seen a sudden spike.
“It can only be the prospect of Hunter Biden entering the prison system,” says narcotics expert and former addict Irena Cruelly, whose charitable organisation Just Say Nose seeks to rehabilitate those addicted to cocaine. “Prison is the growth market for drugs these days. Indeed, there are people who get themselves sent away just so they can deal dope to inmates. The profits are huge and the business is steady, unlike on the street. The prospect of Hunter Biden joining the system has these people salivating. Given his profile, he could be sent anywhere, which is why prisons all across the US have seen this massive rise in cocaine supplies. They want to be prepared.”
However, the demand from US prisons has drawn large amounts of cocaine bound for other parts of the world into North America.
“This has created a real headache for the cartels,” says Cruelly. “They rely on a steady market. It’s better for business. Sudden spikes in demand require more investment and often leave dealers holding excess supply for too long. Prices can then dive as quickly as they rose, and of course you’re more vulnerable to law enforcement the longer you hold the product. Still, no one wants to miss out on the bonanza an imprisoned Hunter Biden might bring with him. So everyone is watching and waiting.”
