A MILITARY HISTORIAN has warned those who are cheering on Ukraine’s invasion of Russia, that once you are inside Russia the more land you take the more difficult your task becomes.

Marshall Winter, whose latest tome, Victory is a Choke, is published next week, says: “In Russia you must defeat armies. If you don’t and you just capture territory, then you risk choking to death on your conquests, while the armies hit you where and when they like at times of their own choosing.

“Anyone can take Russian territory; few manage to keep it. It’s not impossible, just very very difficult.”
