BELFAST
THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT’S refusal to pay for the refurbishment of Casement Park in West Belfast so that it can host Euro 28 football matches, has sparked calls for the Irish Government to step in an use the thirteen billion euros it has to take from Apple in back taxes to fund the stadium revamp.
“The interest alone should probably pay for the job,” said a Sinn Fein representative from Andersonstown. “We’d have a stadium here in Belfast to rival Croke Park and Wembley. We could even hold regular Irish internationals here. This would be a terrific investment by Dublin. Sure isn’t sport a great unifier?”
