WASHINGTON, DC
“I’VE LIVED THROUGH KENNEDY, JOHNSON, NIXON, FORD, CARTER, REAGAN, BUSH 1, CLINTON, BUSH 2. OBAMA, TRUMP 1? AND BIDEN; AND YOU KNOW WHAT? NOTHING MUCH HAS CHANGED FOR THE BETTER. SURE, THE RICH HAVE GOTTEN RICHER, MUCH RICHER; AND THE POOR, THEY REMAIN POOR, THOUGH WITH QUITE A BIT OF SUPPORT; BUT THE MIDDLE CLASS, THEY ARE FUCKED!”
The above was found written on a bathroom door in California.
A fresh poll of voters indicates that these sentiments are not unique to whoever wrote them. Millions of Americans have lost faith in the system that rules them.
“There’s a sense that the problems are now insurmountable,” says G. Malcom Trotter of Uncomfortable Truths, which polls people with a single question to which they are allowed respond in great detail should they so choose. “They can write a book if they want. Most don’t. We feed it all into a supercomputer, run by a very clever AI program, and we publish what it tells us. This time the question was Do You Honestly Give A Monkey’s Shit Who Wins The Presidency?“
The response should have both camps in the US Presidential election asking themselves questions, Trotter insists.
“When Kennedy was President, a lower middle class industrial worker could finance a home and a family on his own, we were headed to the Moon and the Baby Boomer boom was in full swing; today we can’t get out of Earth orbit, the average worker can barely make rent – he doesn’t own a home – and we’re reliant on immigrants to keep our population up. A dozen Presidents have come and gone, each of them crying change and better – and yes, we can – even make America great again – and people are asking why we are where we are?”
