MARS BAR MOURNS AS MARIANNE FAITHFUL DIES

FROM OUR SIXTIES ICONS OBITUARIES EDITOR, CHARLIE MICKNKEEF

MARIANNE FAITHFUL, THE original wild child, the woman who wrote the book on Sixties hedonism, who dated Jagger, became a pop icon and was famously found covered only in a rug and allegedly holding a Mars Bar during the legendary Rolling Stones Redlands drug bust in 1967, has died.

“Most people conveniently forget the Mars Bar now,” says rock guru Hamilton Spliff, “and that was what it wanted. It retreated into the shadows after the police left Redlands, released one modest single and then headed – Terrence Stamp-like – to an Ashram in India. Later, it became a hermit. But it never forgot Marianne. Believe me, according to legend, they had a genuine connection. It has not released a statement, but those close to it say it is in genuine mourning for Ms Faithful. Thank you for the days, Marianne.”
