BUENOS AIRES
THE FALKLAND ISLANDS, over which a short war was fought between the United Kingdom and Argentina in 1982, could change their name from the English version to the Spanish version to avoid tariffs placed on the islands by US President Donald Trump.
“The tariffs are on the Falkland Islands,” explained Julio Julio, an Argentinian footballer who played under two names in Europe to maximize his earnings. “If they change to Islas Malvinas, it’s likely the Americans will not notice and the Falklanders can sneak their goods in without tariffs. Other countries like Ireland – which is Eire in its own language – might so the same. Americans are not the smartest when it comes to overseas geography.”
