NOW THAT THE shooting has started, Israel has the edge in weapons; while Iran fills in its gaps with rhetoric. But Iran does have an advantage it hasn’t used yet against Israel – population. There are almost 90 million Iranians, which gives them a 10 to advantage over Israel. Even a pick-up truck army with that kind of advantage can overwhelm a technically superior force if it is willing to take the casualties required. If the Iranians ever forced their way to the Golan Heights in large numbers, the Americans might have to come to Israel’s rescue in real force. But would that even be enough? Like words, weapons only get you so far. Unless they’re thermonuclear, of course.
