THE MUCH-COVETED Josef Goebbels Award for contributions to balanced news may well go to America’s CBS News’ 60 Minutes program for its controversial and costly, but highly coiffured and mercilessly edited, interview with Presidential hopeful Kamala Harris during last year’s US election.
CBS has had to fork out $16 million to President Trump, who sued them on the basis that the edited interview represented an interference in the election.
“This is a terrific news because the award comes with a $17 million dollar prize, so we’re up a million,” said a CBS source. “And it’s gone viral on the net. Every cloud, as they say.”
The prize, usually won by tabloids and political party newspapers, is normally paid out in gold bars rescued from a lake in Austria in 1945.
“The winners can opt to keep the German eagle and swastika marks on the metal, if they want,” said an administrator of the award from his hideaway in Paraguay. “It can be very useful. When Pravda won in thirty five successive years, the Soviet Union used the funds to keep the economy going until 1989.”
