LEADING ACADEMIC ASKS WHETHER IT WAS SMART TO HOLD A DANCE PARTY RIGHT NEXT TO THE LARGEST PRISON CAMP IN THE WORLD?

GAZA

“IF YOU DANCE on the graves of those you have buried alive, don’t be surprised if when they break free of their entombment they run amok among those they hold responsible.”

Palestinian academic Edward Goliath, now 101, spoke these words from his bed in Gaza, where the sound of explosions dulled the telephone reception every few minutes.

“I regret the deaths of young Jews; I regret the deaths of young Arabs. But a people driven to the end of their tether will inevitably have little or nothing to lose. You perhaps should not dance too close to such people. It is not a smart thing to do. We will not go quietly.”
