KURDISTAN REPORTERS IN VARIOUS COUNTRIES
“IF THIS WERE a marriage it would be described as an abusive relationship. Twice before the Kurds have put their faith in the promises of the Americans and twice before they have been brutally betrayed. And now they appear to be going back for more!”
John Gabmowth, a former CIA officer who was jailed for revealing the name of the President of the United States while trying to recruit an enemy agent, has a guilty secret: he twice coaxed the Kurds into fighting American wars and twice helped to betray them when America lost interest and walked away.
“I just don’t wanna see them get it in the neck again,” he insists. “In 1991 we urged them – among others – to rebel against Saddam Hussein, and then did nothing to help when he came after them with helicopters. No one in Washington had thought to ban choppers when they put a no fly zone in place. Then, when ISIS took much of Syria and parts of Iraq, we used the Kurds as our shock troops. Until, ISIS was defeated. Then, when the sands shifted and a new Syrian regime, made up of former jihadists of sundry hues, turned on the Kurds, we just left them to their fate in Syria. And there they lie to this day. I can’t believe they’re coming back for more.”
