FROM OUR US POLITICAL REPORTER OSKAR SCHADENFREUDE
“RUMORS OF THE death of the Trump Presidency have been somewhat exaggerated. Presidents die hard and often they return time after time to inflict pain and torment upon their enemies. You may take away his majority in the Congress, but you cannot so easily take away his freedom to act as he pleases. A zombie he may be, but zombies enjoy chewing on flesh and he has a real taste for it now.”
These were the words of a Democratic apparatchik as she watched her party celebrate its victory in the United States Congressional Mid-Term elections.
“My party should enjoy its victory but also prepare for a fight. Mr Trump has two years left and little or nothing to lose. It’s probably too short a time to impeach him, I think, but it’s long enough for him to make an already dysfunctional Congress even more problematic. He will aim to make us look bad, that’s all he has to do to try and win back voters who decided to give him a kick in the mid-terms. If we do not deliver, then the smiles will be on the other side of our faces in two years when the White House is up for grabs again. Assuming he vacates the premises peacefully. The battle lines are now well and truly drawn.”
